(Montel) Dutch battery energy storage system (BESS) developer Giga Storage will develop its first project outside the Netherlands, a 300 MW system in Belgium, to be operational by the second half of 2025, it said on Wednesday.
The company expects to reach financial close on the 1,200 MWh BESS project in Kinrooi at the beginning of next year once it has obtained a transmission connection permit from Belgian TSO Elia.
It plans to have 5 GW of BESS capacity operational in Europe by 2030, with 3 GW targeted for Belgium and the rest across the Netherlands and Germany.
