Google data centre eyes 5% of Norway's power demand

(Montel) Google’s planned data centre in southern Norway could use up to 860 MW of electricity, potentially accounting for more than 5% of the nation’s total demand, local media reported on Tuesday.

The American multinational technology giant is seeking the grid connection from TSO Statnett from 1 April 2025, according to daily Telemarksavisa, citing official documents.

Full demand capacity of 860 MW would translate to around 7.5 TWh annually – around 5.5% of Norway’s total power use.

Google has yet to make a final investment decision for the project in the southern city of Skien, in Norway’s NO2 power market…
