(Montel) The EU is unlikely to meet even 50% of its green hydrogen target of 20m tonnes by 2030 as the necessary exponential growth of renewables is “unrealistic”, experts told Montel this week.
“We argue that the EU’s 2030 hydrogen targets are exceeding expected demand and are dependent on a very fast and unprecedented increase of renewable capacity, grid connections, and electrolysers,” said the authors from Renewables Grid Initiative, a group of TSOs and climate and environmental NGOs.
