(Montel) Spain added 2,883 MW of renewable power capacity in the first six months of the year, with 1,240 GW coming from wind and 1,643 MW from solar, preliminary data from TSO Red Electrica showed on Friday.
Renewable energy capacity accounted for over 60% of Spain’s total installed capacity, which totalled 115,145 MW by the end of June.
The country’s growth in renewables has coincided with an increase in long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs), in which nearly 450 MW have been linked to such deals in the year to date, according to Montel’s calculations.
Including Portugal, Iberia has seen nearly 10.5 GW in renewable PPAs signed since 2017.
Spain plans to triple its solar and wind capacity to nearly 100 GW by 2030.
