(Montel) Russia is fulfilling its gas supply agreements with the EU and there was no reason to believe the country is manipulating the market, deputy head of the European Commission Frans Timmermans said on Friday.
Worldwide demand for gas was “huge”, he added when speaking to Bulgarian television station BTV.
“This is also a big problem in China [so] Russia is also trying to supply maximum quantities to China,” he said.
This echoed a view expressed last week by the EU energy commissioner Kadri Simson, who said initial EC assessments suggested Russia was fulfilling its long-term contracts, albeit not providing any additional supply.
