(Montel) The Spanish government has urged a cap on carbon prices in the wake of European Commission proposals released on Wednesday afternoon to reform the EU ETS and other measures to meet stricter emissions targets.
"We consider [it] appropriate to establish an operational control mechanism over the price of CO2 because the current dynamic is not sustainable at the moment," said energy minister Teresa Ribera in a statement in the wake of the EC announcement.
Carbon prices have risen more than 62% since the beginning of the year, with the Dec 21 EUA contract last seen up EUR 0.42 at EUR 53.27/t.
