(Montel) France will miss its target to have 44.2 GW of onshore wind and solar power capacity installed by 2023, due mostly to local opposition, Jean-Louis Bal, head of French renewable lobby SER, said on Tuesday.
“We are expecting an acceleration in 2021, but that will not be enough to meet the 2023 targets,” Bal told Montel.
France would need to connect 2.2 GW of onshore wind to the grid every year for the next three years in order to meet the 2023 target, he said. But projects to start up capacity over the next few years amounted to only 1.5-2 GW.
