(Montel) Germany will see the launch of 2.8 GW of new gas-fired capacity by 2026, with half that due by year end, the BNA network regulator said on Friday as the upper house approved the country’s nuclear phase-out.
The Bundesrat signed off on the closure of 4 GW of nuclear capacity by 15 April, with the three remaining reactors having initially been due to shutter by year end.
The extension was due to the squeezed energy supply situation in Europe amid a curtailment of Russian gas flows amid the fallout from the war in Ukraine.
