(Montel) Poland’s biggest power firm PGE is in talks with rivals Enea and Energa to part finance the latter pair’s planned 1 GW coal-fired Ostroleka plant, they said late on Monday.

Despite signing a deal with US firm GE on 28 December to construct the unit, Enea and Energa lack roughly half of the EUR 1.7bn earmarked to finance the project.

Last year, the development was criticised by environmental group Climate Action Network and the London-based think-tank Carbon Tracker, which dubbed the investment a “financial disaster” that could lead to losses for the two utilities.
