(Montel) The chances of RWE’s new 1,100 MW Niederaussem L lignite-fired plant being built are “very small”, the German utility said on Thursday after a court ruled against the plan.
His comments came after the highest administrative court in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia ruled against the project.
There were a number of deficiencies in the approval sought by the western municipality of Bergheim near Cologne where the unit was due to be situated, said the court.
Local residents brought the case to court, though RWE is considering cancelling the unit anyway amid the country’s possible coal exit and has yet to make a final investment decision.
The municipality could still to take the case to Germany’s highest administrative court.
