Engie brings forward Tihange 1 stop to ease November crunch

(Montel) Engie has moved forward and shortened the planned outage at its 962 MW Tihange 1 nuclear reactor in Belgium to between 13 October and 17 November as the country faces a potential power shortage next month.

The firm had previously scheduled the maintenance for 20 October to 29 November, transparency data showed.

TSO Elia had proposed a shorter outage at Tihange 1 on Thursday to help alleviate a tight supply situation ahead of the winter.

Concerns about supply security were heightened last week after Engie decided to extend outages by six months at its Tihange 2 and 3 reactors, leaving only one out of seven reactors in the country in operation in November.
