(Montel) Belgium is planning to build an artificial so-called energy island over the next decade, the country’s grid operator Elia said on Monday.
The island was set to be located almost 45km off the coast, it added in a statement, with the project first announced in 2021 set to be linked to 3.5 GW of new offshore wind by 2030 and featuring two interconnectors to be completed by 2033.
